Description

Élégie (op.39, No.1) is lyrical and sonorous, contrasting a middle section which has more momentum and energy, before the original theme returns, with its simple but supportive chordal accompaniment. The music is traditional and accessible, typical of much salon music from the end of the 19th-century and exploits the singing qualities of the double bass. Concert-Ländler (Op.39, No.2) is full of character and style. The different sections, and inventive accompaniments, create interest and momentum, allowing the double bass to play waltz-like melodies and rhythms in the outer sections and sonorous phrases in between. This edition includes accompaniments for both solo and orchestral accompaniments.
