Description

The nineteenth century’s late-romantic era was the second “golden-age” of the flute. l feel sure that this edition will meet a long felt need as most of the music of this period has been out of print for a long time. Franz Albert Doppler was amongst the greatest flute-virtuosos of his time. His music became deeply influenced during his stay in Hungary where it took its roots in Hungarian gypsy music. Doppler was born in Lemberg in 1821 and came to Budapest with his family in 1830. He was appointed first Flautist at the German, and later on, at the National Theatre. In 1858 he settled in Vienna where he was appointed first Flautist and Ballet Conductor at the Hofoper. He acted as Professor at the Academy of Music from 1865. He toured extensively with his brother Karl Doppler (1825-1900) also an eminent flautist and they often performed works which they themselves had composed. Franz Doppler died in Baden near Vienna in 1883. This edition is based on a copy printed by Schott, Mainz. Obvious errors have been rectified and dynamic as well as phrase marks have been amended. The work was dedicated to Mr A. S. Negovetich. András Adorján, Stockholm, 1970
