Description

Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No 2 in E-flat major, Op. 74,  is a virtuosic and expressive masterpiece of the clarinet repertoire. Composed in 1811 for the virtuoso Heinrich Joseph Baermann (1784–1847), a celebrated virtuoso known for his expressive playing style. It showcases the full range and versatility of the instrument. Alongside Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, Weber’s is one of the most important and frequently performed concertos for the instrument. The work is a foundational piece in the clarinet repertoire, prized by students and professionals for its technical and musical challenges. The concerto is one of several works Weber wrote for Baermann, including his Concertino for Clarinet and Orchestra and Clarinet Concerto No. 1.
