Who doesn’t love the magical world of mechanical musical instruments, its mechanical musical theater with drums and cymbals that are driven to the rhythm …with mallets as if moved by an invisible hand, or with lifelike figures whose fingers move at the speed of the sound, who blink with their eyes, smile and even bow? Dressing up as such a character and playing a solo on such a good-natured instrument as a pair of cymbals was my idea for Clash Music. It should fit anywhere in between, at the same time be full of mini-theatrical associations and not conform to the disguise idea at all. Expressivity reveals. (Nicolaus A. Huber, February 1988)
