During his lifetime, it was said of Andreas Kneller (1649-1724), active as organist in Hanover and Hamburg, that “this organist Gould not be accepted without …reservation, since he departed from all established and recognized rules of music”. Unfortunately, only few of Kneller’s unconventional and undoubtedly numerous works have come down to us today. The first editions prepared by Klaus Beckmann are thus all the more significant.
