Description

Fanfare Festivo was composed as a gift for Barry Green and his students at Ohio State University in Columbus (USA) for a Gala Concert on 3 October 2022.
Scored for Double Bass, Octet and lasting around two minutes, the work is celebratory and triumphal, exploring the entire range of the double bass and using contrapuntal and antiphonal effects to create energy and contrast. The style is tonal, with a strong forward momentum, with an exciting and dramatic coda which should guarantee great applause.
The fanfare is based on a repeating eight-bar chordal scheme, with a strong rhythmic energy and momentum, and could easily be played by massed forces. It was composed to be enjoyed by performers and audiences alike.
Fanfare Festivo was premiered at Ohio State University (Columbus, Ohio USA) on Monday 3 October 2022 by the Ohio State Buckeye Basses (Dallas Carpenter, Grace Cooper, Jimmy Perera, Cameron Lucas, Dirui Jiang, Jane Haberle, Braedon Salisbury, Samantha Marcrum, Jacqueline Marshall, Carson Wolf), conducted by Malik Khalfani. A second performance, with the same performers, took place at Ohio State University as part of an all strings departmental concert on Tuesday 4 October 2022
