Description

Jayson Mackie’s Wind Quintet was given its premiere on 19 April 1998 by the Pentagon Ensemble of the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, at the Royal Northern College of Music and Drama, Manchester as part of the World Music Days Inter-Collegiate Composer’s Consortium Festival. The work is in two movements. The first movement shares melodic material with all instruments as players battle with each other individually, and as smaller groups; the second movement is more sectionalised and is concerned with the quintet working together, rather than opposing sets of instruments presenting ideas as we heard in the first movement. More rhythmic writing is pitted against strong, harmonically-additive lyricism. Previous Published by Oriana Publications.
