Réminiscences de Don Juan (S. 418) is a virtuoso opera fantasy for solo piano composed by Franz Liszt in 1841. The composition uses themes from Mozart’s 1787 opera Don Giovanni, and is widely considered one of the most technically demanding works in the piano repertoire.

The piece is a dramatic “reminiscence” about Don Juan which uses three pivotal scenes from Mozart’s opera to create a moral commentary on the story:

The Commendatore’s Warning: The work begins with a sinister depiction of the Statue’s music from the graveyard and finale scenes, symbolizing Don Juan’s eventual condemnation.

The Seduction Duet: It transitions into a series of variations on the famous duet “Là ci darem la mano” between Don Juan and Zerlina.

The Champagne Aria: The climax features a rousing, virtuoso treatment of the “Champagne” aria (Fin ch’han dal vino), celebrating Don Juan’s hedonistic spirit
