My First Bass Solos is a collection of five fun and accessible solos for the beginner bassist, employing open strings, arco, pizzicato and First Position, …alongside a few brief forays into Half Position. None of the pieces outstay their welcome and repeats can easily be added if needed. The piano accompaniments are simple and supportive, with the double bass teacher in mind, adding colour and texture, creating short and engaging pieces which are ideal for both educational and first concert repertoire. Dynamics can be added at the teacher and student’s discretion, and the pieces can be played as a suite or singly and in any order. Humphrey Clucas has composed a wealth of music for young bassists over the past 25 years, writing in an interesting, inventive and striking musical language.
