Description

Scherzo in B flat major – edited by Miloslav Gajdoš, the leading Gregora expert, this short and energetic scherzo offers interesting repertoire for the intermediate bassist. There are musical and technical challenges, played in bass clef throughout, with a lively and supportive accompaniment. This is ideal for both concert and educational use and there are a few easy double stops in the extended solo cadenza, ending with a fast and energetic final flourish. Polka was composed in 1849 and is stylish and elegant, primarily using the middle register of the double bass. The Trio (Poco meno mosso) is charming and engaging,
influenced by the polkas and stylish dance music of Johann Strauss I and Joseph Lanner in nearby Vienna. It offers musical and technical challenges to the progressing bassist with a lively and supportive accompaniment which adds drama, colour and momentum. This edition includes piano accompaniments for orchestral tuning only
