Many of Nicholas Sims-Williams’ compositions are for wind instruments. He is himself a horn-player, and married to an oboist. This Serenade is a substantial piece lasting about 18 minutes. It is scored for 2 flutes, 2 oboes, 2 clarinets, 2 horns and 2 bassoons, with the second flute doubling on piccolo, the second oboe doubling on cor anglais (in the first movement only), and the second clarinet doubling on bass clarinet (in the last movement). If a bass clarinet is not available, the second clarinet should play the alternative part for clarinet in A see separate part. Other instruments should play the bass clarinet cues printed in their parts.
