Bryan Kelly writes about his Sonatina for Cello: “Apart from the piano, the cello is my favourite instrument. I taught myself how to play it, …while still at school, then took lessons with John Snowdon when I was a student at the R.C.M. I had to give the cello up to concentrate on other things, but my love for the instrument lingered on and in the past few years, I have written works for two, four and eight cellos, so it seemed logical to write something for one, hence this Sonatina! The dedication is to Naomi Butterworth who has championed my cello music and given many performances of it”.
