Findeisen, Theodor Albin

Theodor Albin Findeisen (1881-1936) was a German bassist-composer who studied in Vienna with Simandl and later in Leipzig with Oswald Schwabe. From 1920 he was First Solo Bass of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and two years later was appointed Professor of double bass at Leipzig Conservatoire. He was an influential teacher, also composing concert pieces and concertos for the double bass, and in 1935 composed his Quartet Suite Op.26 for double bass quartet, one of the first works to be written for the double bass quartet as an ensemble.
