Felipe Libon (1775-1838) was a French composer-violinist who was born in Cádiz (Spain) and studied in London with Giovanni Battista Viotti . He travelled throughout Europe as a soloist but lived for much of his life in Paris and composed a wealth of virtuosic concert works for the violin. František Simandl was the first to transcribe some of Libon’s violin etudes for the double bass, published in the 1880s.
