Luigi Negri (1837-1891) studied double bass with Luigi Rossi and succeeded his teacher at the Milan Conservatoire. He was Principal Bass at La Scala Milan and also composed a number of solo works and studies for double bass alongside transcribing many etudes by Kreutzer, Rode, Libon, Mayseder, Polledro and Spohr.
