Alex’s Fantasy was composed in 2019 and is dedicated to Alexander Heather, at the time a student at Wells Cathedral School in Somerset. In one …extended movement and utilising the entire range of the solo double bass, this is a colourfully inventive work which explores a number of evocative and atmospheric sound worlds. A rhapsodic approach, with musical and technical challenges in equal measure, offers much to the adventurous bassist. There are opportunities to explore the sonorous and lyrical possibilities of the solo double bass in music which employs a strong rhythmic momentum in a modern but accessible idiom. Alex’s Fantasy was premiered on Sunday 15 December 2019 at Wells & Mendip Museum (Wells, Somerset) by Alexander Heather.
