Composed in 1733 for the birthday of Maria Josepha, Queen of Poland and Electress of Saxony Bach’s Cantata BWV 214, titled “Tönet, ihr Pauken! Erschallet, Trompeten!” (Resound, ye drums! Ring out, ye trumpets!), this secular cantata is a festive piece structured in nine movements, featuring alternating recitatives and arias framed by choral movements.
