Danzón No.2 a la Cubana and Danzón No.3: La Loma del Ángel are separate works but would also work together beautifully in concert.

“My mother’s last two years were spent living with my husband, Michael, and me in the quiet town of Rogers, Arkansas. During that time, moments of history and storytelling enriched our lives. For example, while composing Danzón No. 3: La Loma del Ángel, my mother – whom I lovingly call “Mami” – recounted the story of the church where she married my father. That church, Iglesia del Santo Ángel Custodio, is located in an area of Old Havana, Cuba, known as La Loma del Ángel, which translates as “The Hill of the Angel.”
Built in the second half of the 17th-century and expanded in the mid-18th century in the Gothic Revival style, its history is as rich as the memories it evokes.
