Trio Poem Basso II is in two movements is aimed at the intermediate- advanced trio. The music is accessible and evocative, rhythmic, and atmospheric employing …elements of classical, contemporary, jazz, and world music to create mini-tone poems of colour and texture. Teppo Hauta-aho was a past master at exploiting the many facets of the double bass, using playing techniques and effects to add great variety and interest, with effective music for each player. He was influenced by many styles and idioms, all of which he mixed and crystallized into a style that is both evocative and expansive, idiomatic for the double bass, and also exploiting a rare and exotic colour palette. There is much to enjoy in this piece, for performers and audiences alike, emphasizing the solo and ensemble possibilities of the double bass.
