Description

When the Boat Comes In is a Flexible Compendium of 25 Folk Tunes from the North of England, arranged for Two Violins (OR Violin & Viola) with optional Cello (Downloadable) by William McConnell
Includes On Ilkley Moor Bahtat, Scarborough Fair, Dance Ti Thy Daddy, Blaydon Races and many more. Through hundreds of years Folk Music was passed down to each generation on instruments of the time such as Voice, Lutes, Northumbrian Pipes, Concertinas or Fiddles. The tunes were transmitted aurally, and it wasn’t until around the eighteenth century that they were collected on to manuscript. The English Folk Song Society (1898) and the English Folk Dance Society (1911) published these manuscripts giving us today a permanent record. It is due to these publications that this traditional art form exists for us to enjoy. North England folk music reflects strongly the energy, humour and utter friendliness of the people from York to Hadrian’s Wall. The songs and dances are their heritage and express the characteristics of a people which can be told in no other way. William McConnell
